Clark Nova's Melbourne Cup picks of the week

You'll have much better luck with these selections than any horse racing tips.

RIP Gregory Isaacs
This week couldn't go by without mentioning the passing of Gregory Isaacs. I'm not sure I have much Gregory Issacs but before I started getting into reggae I knew his name from the reference to his track If I don't Have You in Mos Def's Ms Fat Booty, one of my favourite hip hop tracks ever.

Deadbeat also uploaded a free, unreleased track of his featuring Gregory Isaacs and it's great. Not sure why it was never released?

Deadboy Halloween mix
Deadboy, who was recently here and played a great set at Goodgod has put together a Halloween mix up on his soundcloud. It's totally not what I was expecting, which is always good. Think Goblin with a much more kraut-rock vibe and a little bit of proggy, guitary stuff. Give it a listen. Not a garage track in sight. Definitely for those into 70s synth and prog stuff. Unfortunately it's not for download.

More House of Wax goodness
I talked about House of Wax in the last post and as promised they've delivered another great mix. This time it's from Willo. A great reggae mix that you should give a listen. It's called Willo J presents California’s Dreaming: Studio One in the Seventies and, again, it's available over at the Meatskull blog.

Surgeon in Sydney live set
Surgeon recently played for Void/Index at the forum in Sydney and someone had the good sense to record it. Even better Surgeon has posted the three hour set on his blog. As he says, it's probably a bit harder than he would usually play and it's an interesting listen. Download it over at Surgeon's blog.

New M.E.D. - Bang Ya Head III
The third instalment of MED's (aka Medaphoar) Bang Ya Head series was unleashed this week and, in my opinion, is way ahead of most mixtapes going round at the moment. But what else did you expect? It's mixed by Lootpack's DJ Romes. It's dope and you need it. You can get it, along with a track list here.
