When Frigid returned to @newtown after finishing and then.... returning, Sir Robbo (Astronomy Class, Tooth) played one of the best DJ sets I've ever heard. It was like an audio family tree of a newly discovered lineage. Fortunately it was just a fun, cool, awesome bunch of tracks that Sir Robbo made unique sense of, totally lacking in pretension, unlike the previous description.
Sir Robbo hasn't been behind the decks with any regularity for quite some time now, so it's great to see that he and Willo have a new monthly Sunday nighter called House of Wax, at Essen (on Broadway, used to be Una's). Happening on the last Sunday of the month. The first instalment will be next Sunday 31st October with guests Mark O and Prince Valium.
The blurb for the night says: Serving up the best in afro, latin, ska, r'n'b, jazz, funk, reggae, rock and soul from the 50s, 60s and 70s at 45 and 33 RPM.
There's no need to add anything to that except to say Robbo has done a promo mix and it's great. You can download Sir Robbo presents California My Way: Motown Heads West Vol.1 courtesy of the awesome Meatskull blog.
Join the House of Wax Facebook page for more details as well as the promise of some more great mixes.
